How to help your pet through Fireworks

Provide a Den...
Create an enclosed "safe space" for your pet to roam freely in and out of.
If you have experienced fireworks with them previously and they go to a specific corner of the house/room place the den there.
You can use a crate, table, cupboard - whatever you have handy but make sure to cover all 3 sides creating a sheltered space. You could even add a jumper of yours so they can smell you in there.

Keep yourself calm
During the fireworks - DON'T REACT.
Our pets react to our reactions so staying calm and ignoring the fireworks is the best way to go.
Try not to worry and don't get angry with your pet, or fuss over them.
Just gently reassure and try to carry on with normal routines as much as possible.

Keep Routine
If you've had a puppy you will know how important routines are for enabling your pet to settle and decompress. So try to stick to your normal routine, Meal times, Bed times etc.

Avoid walks at night
Its important to avoid walking your dog at night, especially if you knwo they are anxious/nervous/scared. This could have a detrimental effect on their health and well being.
So either walk them earlier before the fireworks start - or skip the walk and opt for some enrichment instead.

Burn Extra Energy
Its a good idea to try and burn off energy prior to the evening.
If your able to a really big walk/run in the daytime - Swimming, A training class, game of fetch. Whatever you enjoy doing with your pet, aim to tire them out in the daytime.

Keep cats indoors
To ensure they don't get afraid and run into trouble, its best to keep your cat indoors. Add extra litter trays infrint of exits they would traditionally use to go to the loo.

Try to mask the sound
You can muffle sound by keeping the windows closed and also closing any curtains/blinds.
Play some music
Put the TV on
Turn the fan on
