Pet Loss


Losing a pet can be very upsetting, but it's important to remember that grief is a process that everyone deals with differently. Here are some ways to cope with the loss of a pet:

Acknowledge your grief: Allow yourself to cry and express your emotions.

Talk to others: Reach out to friends and family who can provide support and comfort. If you don't have family or friends you can reach our to then the blue cross have a pet bereavement service that you can call on: 0800 096 6606

Memorialize your pet: You can have a funeral or memorial service, bury or scatter their ashes, or create a photo collage.

Take time: It's important to take time to process the loss before getting a new pet.

Don't replay the last moments: Try not to replay your last moments with your pet.

Some other things you can do to cope with the loss of a pet include:

Planting flowers that bloom every year for your pet

Lighting a candle in your pet's memory

Keeping a lock of hair in a locket or Christmas ornament

Keeping your pet's tags on your key chain
